vf10 turbo

is the VF10 turbo an aftermarket one or is it found on stock cars..if so which car am i lookin to find one on??

its a after market one as far as i know.. you might be able to find it on other cars.. but not familia GTX or GTR (i think) please correct me if im wrong! :). They go on the GTX as a hybrid set up i think, i was considering doing it but not for now!

The VF10 is not aftermarket, it's from an automatic Subaru Liberty of some vintage. Ford and Subaru mostly use IHI turbos, so you can hybrid the VF10 to your stock VJ14/VJ20 using the stock VJ14/6 wastegate actuator but with the VF10's bigger wastegate flap with the wastegate port bored out to within 1.5~2mm radius of the bigger flap (to control boost creep).

That's more than what you wanted to know, but it roughly covers what you need to know... You might want to consider a VF12 over a VF10 if you have a BPT/GTX.
Gav.

EDIT: If you have an AUDM B6T you can use the higher flowing 55mm BPT/GTX cast dump with a custom J-pipe for better performance.

Another something you should look at if you are considering hybriding.

what turbo do you have strapped to your GTR rob?

ROB-80E 07-05-2007 08:52 PM

A GTR one mate. ;)

For those interested, here's the difference in my old custom VF10 to the GTR Familia turbo.

VJ20 vs TD05HR16g (evo 6 turbo)

egos_86 09-05-2007 06:39 PM

tbh honest, im lookin for somethin which will pretty much bolt on without too much faffin about, and just a little more punchy than the stock gtx one dont want anythin that spools up after any more than 3000revs

...and its the newr gtx 1.8

chicaboo 09-05-2007 06:45 PM

Then you want a VF10 hybrid: so that means buy the complete VF10 and remove the exhaust housing then feed the core into the VJ20 (GTX) exhaust housing and you're done. You want to chase up a VJ14 or VJ6 actuator from what I read. I don't think you need to rebalance the blades by doing it this way, (but that's worth another opinion) or atleast getting it all done properly by a pro incase you're unco like me and knock the blades separating the housings...

cheers gav, much appreciated.

so a vf10 is from only a scooby liberty auto, and is this a ball bearing turbo or another type, sorry im a noob when it comes to turbos, only just got the gtx a month ago.

Dogo 09-05-2007 08:35 PM

Its not a ball bearing turbo.

Have u made other upgrades yet ? There's a number of things you can and probably should do before worrying about the turbo. Intercooler, exhaust, fueling, timing etc.
You can bump the stock turbo up to about 12-14psi these basic mods.

Im just about to start work on a Vj20 – VF24 hybrid….Ill let you know how I get on!!!

intercooler and boost controller will be the first, already got a 2.5 inch zorst but tbh, i was just interested into whats possible with limited funding. And when u say timing, what is involved and gained by that? cheers

soz bit off topic but..got a mate who has gtr engine has bit of work done, which was like that when he got it..it also has a greddy turbo..think same as evo 8..wat sorta psi do u think this thing was pushin b4 he got it? considering rob can push 22 out of the gtr..? mos include external waste gate, sub injectors..oil cooler..bov..fmic..boost controller..etc..but still had standar(not sure if its chipped) so still had afm too..

roughly how much do you guys think it would cost on average to hybrid the stock gtx turbo? also i just wanted to clarify that the gtx/vf10 is a direct bolt on? also is this is only direct bolt on option for the gtx engine without having to modify everything to allow the fitment of another turbo.
