you also need the lower ball joint as its larger on the v6 , whoch cost me 70AU for both

Having just gone through the exercise....

If you've done a 5-stud conversion and then buy a set of 4 wheels as we did you'll notice you don't have a suitable spare. This is cool until you get a flat and need a spare as we found out. Fix a flat cannot fix a finger sized hole...

Now you can either buy an extra cool awesome alloy and tyre to use rarely...

OR

Do what I just did and get hold of a stock steel wheel from a BA/BF Falcon. These are 16x6.5" and match the correct bolt pattern. Stick a 195/50R16 or 205/45R16 on it and you're in business.

Cost - Free if you've got mates who'd chucked a set off their car they're also dirt cheap from a wrecker.

Response from MX5Plus. Not a in-depth technical response I believe there's no spacers just the caliper brackets.

Mal,

The calipers bolt straight on; the discs fit the hubs, the brake
hoses connect perfectly, the handbrake cables fit.

The only blemish is that the brake backing plates need to be
"dressed" to prevent interference with the larger discs and
calipers. Some owners have removed the plates altogether.

Correct - just brackets, part numbers below, they also accomodate larger pads etc.

Mazda part numbers:
N067-26-28X on the Left
N067-26-29X on the right

Whether they bolt to a BHA/CBA/KJ platform knuckle is up for debate (or test)

does anyone have the mazda part number for the BA v6 rear 5 lug hubs???
in a b455-17-136A type of format

wow i am confused as.. so what exactly do you need just to change your stud pattern to 5x114.3? the v6 hubs and what else? lol im sorry for reviving a old thread with such a stupid question but i am reaaaaly confused right now :(

Rupewrecht 08-10-2008 04:52 PM

Parts needed:

Front:
- V6 calipers
- V6 5 stud hubs
- V6 knuckle/stub axle
- V6 rotors + pads

Rear:
- V6 hubs
- V6 rotors

The differences between ABS and non-ABS means you have to be careful which hubs you get from the wrecker/Mazda, as i know the rears are different. You may need the corresponding rear stub axles as well.

As a guide, i paid about $650 for the V6 hubs/stub axles/calipers from a wrecker (but it's normally be more). Then you've got the cost of new rotors and pads + installation + bleeding etc.

cheers man thats what i was looking for in the thread :) i just really want to upgrade cus there is such a big selection of wheels for the 5x114.3 PCD compared to the 4x100, well in the 18" plus range anyway :) thanks Dan
Tony

Rupewrecht 08-10-2008 06:07 PM

Is a bigger selection of wheels worth the $1500+ it's going to cost though?

70NYD 09-10-2008 12:26 AM

hmmm good point mate :) i dont think it is ay haha im just scared that once i lower my car my 16" will make it look like a matchbox :)

project.r.racing 09-10-2008 07:34 AM

plenty of 4x100 stuff up until 18". you won't have a problem.

you can get 19" 4x100 i'm pretty sure. that should keep you happy

Rupewrecht 09-10-2008 09:43 PM

Exactly. Rim choice wasn't the main reason i did it. I wanted bigger brakes but even that wasn't the main reason. It was that my 4 stud hubs were warped so new rotors were instantly warped by just bolting them to the hub!

70NYD 09-10-2008 11:07 PM

oh i c thanx 4 that guys :) i really want 18s in black n a polished lip, multispoke.. sorta like ryans :)

do they?

Do you have any pics of the SP20 caliper? The MPV have, for lack of a better description, non linier/offset bolt holes.

Cosmo Dude 11-02-2011 09:50 PM

Just for ****s 'n' giggles this shows GD calipers bolted to V6 knuckles with subie twinspot calipers. V6 disk diameter is a few mm too big for this option.

Eunos 800M calipers have the same bolt spacing as the BA but with bigger bolts and thicker disks. HC 929 disks appear to be the same diameter and the right thickness.

what does this exactly mean? im going to swap the hubs to 5 stud and wont be using ABS, so apart from the sensor does it matter what calipers i get? can you even get calipers without the ABS in them and if so - what off?

Rupewrecht 29-07-2011 01:31 PM

All calipers are the same.
