Remember the Koni's are inserts need your original strut to be cut and then the
insert pushed in and bolted to the bottom. I have everything you mention bar
the koni's I just went KYB's they were $135 each complete strut. My car handled
awesome even with the standard shocks will let you know with the KYB's they
are being fitted on monday.

don't forget the alignment... mals sheet is around, and they should be able to match that alignment

mike_d87 30-04-2005 02:56 PM

so i would need to do some work to the original strut to fit the koni's but if i got the KYB"S then it'd be OK?

the top of the standard shock needs to be cut off and a hole drilled into the bottom, and then the konis inserted into that. pain in the ass of a job

Any workshop who instal Koni on a regular basis can do this quickly (no muss, no fuss) and put your springs in at the same time. As a DIY job I would avoid it. I'm not a fan of KYB, they are good shocks but they don't rate on my comfort meter.

I't really not that hard to mod the OEM struts. Once you've got the struts off the car, all you need is a ruler, hacksaw, drill (+bits), centre punch and a vice on a sturdy bench. It doesn't have to be cut off all that accurately either. Cut the top off, tip the guts out, drill a hole in the bottom, slide in the Koni insert and screw it in.

It's just getting the springs off that I don't like - all that energy being held in with just spring compresssors

koni arsepain

i was goin to go the KONI route. with a fist full of money n just about throw it on the counter when i discovered, that they don't jusd drop into my rollin stock 92 626 'TOKICO' struts.
if i wanted KONI inserts, first i had to buy old KYBs that fit my car(hard enough to find new stuff) then get sum1 to drill them out so they would be suited to the KONIs...
i got tired of the runaround n opted for BOGE. straight in n somewhat less expensive. BOGE is rolling stock for BMW & PORSCHE. both renouned for comfort & handling.
i have the 50mm lower king springs that cost me $200.
i got 'cambermagic' bolt kit by MONROE $65/pair X2
i think with the KONIs all up it was $1680
with the BOGE $1365
+$265 fitting (including wheel alignment)
when fitting, i was that the camber weren't needed(some even saying they didnt like to use them as they are a 12mm bolt that reduces to a 10mm & they didn't like that idea. BANG!). that unless the car has had an accicdent, they should be able to align spot-on. sum1 suggested LEDA SUSPENSION set it up, he was a very sick man when i rang and had a huge backlog. he told me that if the original camberbolts didn't align, he would drill holes where it did align. so i got credit on the two sets of camber bolts that weren't needed.
MAZDA GE kle S.E. hatch, .KING SPRINGS BOGE & TURBO STRUTS.
I too am happy with my ride ! :D
