NEED HELP bg astina with bp engine auto to manual conversion

ok my auto shat, i screwed by the wreckers about 10 times trying to get a replacement so now i am converting to a manual for free (but i gotta do all the work) and i am NEVER GOING AUTO EVER AGAIN!!! the wrecker is giving me all of the parts that are required to do a conversion for no extra cost than what i have all ready payed for the auto

ok first question
how much wiring do i need to remove and swap?
2
do i have to move anything around?

that should do for now

I'm gonna assume the auto has extra wiring for the box, so you should swap over that loom to the manual one. you will need the manual ECU too

as for other things, get ready to change over your centre console, pedal arrangement (get all the manual pedals), may have some engine bay mods to do to get the master and slave cylinders for the clutch to fit. read the other thread for bits and pieces you needs, that should tell you what you need to move

what dave said. BIG BIG BIG BIG job. easier to sell the auto and buy manual. Almost nothing in the drive train is interchangeble.

Quote:

- gearstick, selectors
- box itself
- drive shafts (not sure but its likely)
- clutch master cylinder
- clutch assembly (flywheel, bellhousing etc)
- piping for clutch
- manual ecu
- manual loom? is the loom any different for autoboxs?
- centre console trim
- brake master cylinder + most likely the block were it distributes to the 4 different lines...

all holes are already in the body, one thing you will have issues with is reverse lights you will prob need to swap over the front half body wiring loom over...
thats from the other thread courtesy of bourbs

also:
- pedals (all 3)
- mount for clutch pedal

wait for it, i just though of another one. is your cluster auto specific? like have any selector markings or that sorta thing on it? you may need to change it too. Just a thought, will the DOHC box work with the SOHC engine?

yeah i am pretty sure ther is no differance.

but any way i cant afford a new car at the moment cus since mine has been down due to getting boned by the wreckers i have had no job or income or savings, and the wreckers are giving me all of the parts for free cuz they are finding it very hard to find a working auto box so i have no other choice i have to go through with the manual conversion weather i like it or not.

bourbon 05-11-2007 11:20 AM

your gonna need lots and lots bro...expect it to carry out for a while...wreckers will keep screwing you around...

also no need to keep making newtopics on this stuff..keep it to one thread sorry...

90323astina 05-11-2007 01:58 PM

ok ill just stick to this thread cuz i have no doubt that i am going to need a bit of help on this.
the parts should be arriving tomorrow cuz the wreckers are just pretty much dissasembaling an astina and giving me all the manual related parts

bourbon 05-11-2007 02:20 PM

hahaha you need absolutly everythin....

90323astina 05-11-2007 02:25 PM

i found this other computer, does it need to moved of replaced cus it sorta looks like it is in the way of where the clutch needs to go:confused:

DavoAust 05-11-2007 03:09 PM

yeah you're right, thats the clutch mount point. you can probably take it out, put the clutch in and refit it. what did you do bourbs? when are you planning on doing the conversion? this weekend?

bourbon 05-11-2007 03:41 PM

WTF...there shouldnt be a computer there...i never saw one there...the computer you need should be under the centre bit of the dash below the glove box bit towards the centre...if you take of the panel on the passenger side you would see the ecu...

DavoAust 05-11-2007 03:58 PM

So your ECU is in the same place as the BA then? 90323 are you sure thats a computer and not just a cover over something else?

bourbon 05-11-2007 04:03 PM

no thats def a computer...even got a sticker on it that a computer has...but yes the BA and BG run the comptuer in the same spot...

DavoAust 05-11-2007 04:07 PM

that really weird then, what would the ECU be doing in such an easy to kick spot. is there a heap of extra wiring under there? like its been moved?

bourbon 05-11-2007 04:15 PM

would of been moved as the wiring only has a distance to get to where it normally is...unless ifthis is the auto ecu...im pretty sure m auto one was the same ecu but with the seperate which was in the passenger side foot well to the left hand side of the foot well...

90323astina 05-11-2007 04:42 PM

ok the normal ecu is where it is sposed to be in the centre under the air box and dash but the other one is wat is confusing me plus it has 2 huge plugs full of wires that go from it to the main ecu wiring loom

90323astina 05-11-2007 04:44 PM

ill try to double check me workshop manual

DavoAust 05-11-2007 04:49 PM

thats really odd then. it sounds like they put the auto comp in the drivers footwell :s. what do you do with it anyway? change the loom+ECU over and sell it?

90323astina 05-11-2007 04:53 PM

ok just noticed in book it is only there for the auto trannie so it getting the chuck

DavoAust 05-11-2007 05:03 PM

Damn weird place to have it. I thought they were in the passenger footwell on pretty much every car. Maybe mazda felt like a laugh. So what are they sending you for the conversion?
