I have just tried this and it works for some things but brings up some rather funny translations for others:
コンピネーシ3ン‘メ一夕 (C 一 2CシスTム）
Becomes
The three Konpineshi 'menu one evening (C a cis-2C T system)
インヒピ夕-スイyチ 〔厶ー1システム]
Becomes
Inhipi evening - NIT-1 system [Chi Sui y]
