yeah... soooo just read all of the above... have looked into it quite a bit. (with the KLZE swap to my BJ)

It isn't a misconception that unknowledged people have... its just how it is in NSW.

there are ways around that law. that is if that older engine has the exact same emissions control as the newer engine. and that it under went the same emissions testing as the newer engine. Then it is ok to use

that said.. if the older engine under went the same kind of testing as the newer engine but has different emissions control to the newer engine then you can upgrade the older engine with the later model controls.

Or...

you can put any aged motor in your car... but you must have an EPA test done and it must meet the standards of manufacture year of the car at a minimum. must also be engineered and mod plated!

so basically... save yourself the hassle in NSW and buy one that is same age or newer for an engine swap. That's why everyone always says to buy one same age or newer.

and by "proof of the motor" could simply be a receipt for purchase of the Wreck.
with the VIN of the wreck on that receipt... they can look up engine number history of that car and match it to your engine number.
or depending on who is behind the counter... just telling them you bought a wrecked car and its the engine out of that is sometimes enough. depends if its your lucky day!
