My car is dead!!
Cruising to work this morning i suddenly got a severe loss of power, i pulled up to a red light...car stalls...restart the car and the loudest ticking noise was coming from my motor creating a scene in the traffic and the idol was shocking. I managed to drive it back to the local mazda shop, doing left foot braking in a manual due to the fact that if i let my foot off the accelerator the car would continually stall. It is being kept there over night, tests will be carried out on the car to see whats happened.
Just for you who dont know me, my car was brought brand new in oct 03 it now has 33000km on it and is now in the shop very sick....unbelievable |

Ah crap marty.. that's no good.. I hope that it's nothing terminal, there's no life support for cars these days..
Hope you get it back sooner rather than later. Cheers Adam

sounds like the motor fuse has just gone, mine did that once, u can start it, but need the foot down right to keep it going or it stalls.

Doesn't sound like the Distributor. Same type of symptoms - loss of power and then car just stops - but doesn't fire again when you try and start it.
Hope it turns out well, sounds like something popped off or some sensor has just karked it.

Ahh yeah, car is now A1, turns out my life time mechanic, didnt put each of the spark plugs in the same allignment, which was reading on the computer as a dropped cylinder and trying to shut the car down.
The dealer fixed the problem and also mentioned that not only does the motor have to be serviced but the computer does as well, so the two problems were fixed, no charge, and the car is back on the road. Iv learnt my lesson today, dealers may charge a bit more but they do everything right, after all, they only work on mazdas. A car is a big investment a couple extra dollars for servicing wont hurt. |

They are also generally the only people with the correct OBD equipment to talk to your car and tune it on the hoist. If you pay close attention to your service report, it does go into detail about them altering ignition, timing, etc...

WTF? Sounds like a like they have told you a wobblely there...
I have never heard of spark plugs not being aligned causing serious problemslike that before... Are the 2L motors that sensitive?

Maybe if one wasn't tightened correctly and shook loose. I can imagine that causing such a problem.

yeah how the hell did that happen? i assume you mean by not alligned he had the lead for the no 1 cylinder going to no 3 or something stupid like that? but still with the leads provided that'd be a bit difficult. i'm suspicious of their solution. also, if they said it was your mechanics fault, they would have charged you to fix it too....hmmmm.....
but atleast it's ok now, and most of all, free. |

the plugs they use shouldn't need to be gapped they will come at the right gap.
Chicaboo ECU updating will only be done if Mazda has found there being a problem with the software on your particular batch of ECU's or a Recall has been issued or the customer has complained of a problem 90% of cars will run fine with the original software install nearly the entire life of the car At the Moment my Work is doing a Nissan X-Trail Recall to do with the cat converter, part of the checking for a faulty cat means doing a new software download. Peugeot actually have the car connect to the internet and do an upgrade from malaysia pretty amazing stuff when you think about it Rob

Apparently my auto had a bit of an adjustment on it's 40,000th birthday. Maybe all the bits and pieces I'd done warranted a little nudge or reset?
