Eibach alternative???
After seeing Troy's beautiful lowered white MX5 on the Dyno weekend, I am keen to get more info on lowering the car.
I drove Troy's car to ensure the Butt O Meter would accept the altered suspension and to my amazement, it was a better ride than my current setup!!! So the chant of "Dump it Kitty" continues..... However, the cost of the same setup on my car is $1800!!! I am looking for any alternatives that will provide the same ride but at a cheaper cost. I don't know the spring rate on the eibach's for a whiteline alternative or what alternatives there are to the Koni Adjustable Coil Overs, but am eager to hear of any options or ideas as to who to talk to....... Thanks to anyone that can help with ideas n such.... One day when I have money I guess..... |

i think eibach springs are the bees knees and are designed to work well with other high end products. the other way to go about it is grab some stuff which is a rung down like ,as u suggested, whiteline and such. i guess the only way to accuraytley guage how both will fare is to go for a spin in another MX5 with an alternative suspension setup.
one thing with konis are that they are just an insert. so when they die ull need to buy another set of stock struts and another set of koni inserts. a procedure which can be murder on your wallet. with my KYB's they came as a complete unit so when they die i can either A: fork out for another set or B: put my stockers (which are in VGC strait back in. jimbo reckons mine and his car handle and ride in very much the same sorta way cuz we both have similar suspension, wheel and tyre setups so i guess that figures! cheers mike |

you only need a new Koni insert - you don't need another original strut at all. it bolts in exactly the same as tho first Koni did my wanting a set of stock struts (which might have given you that idea) is for a different reason

I know some of the NA Mx-5 had factory adjustable shocks and would've thought that it has carried over the the NB and possably able to re-build with improved valving to compensate for the new spring rates.

I'd go the Konis over KYB in the 'but-O-meter' stakes any day

I would diffinately stick with the eibach setup or go H&R, Anything else will be inferior but you have to live with the price. Remember you get what you pay for, search round in US for eibach as they are heaps cheaper. Another alternative go down to Revell Steering and Suspension in Tuggeranong and enquire there. The old dude down there is awesome and knows what he is talking about.

Thanks Tony!
I have heard of Revell previously, so might go for a drive and check them out. I am keen to stick with the Eibach, Aaron will probably know people in the States for pricing as that is where he got most of the Chrysler stuff from. The money has dried up for the moment, but if I can pull my finger out and get stuck into this compo claim, you never know what will happen!! |
