Temptation... Should I?

Ok so heres the scenario. 2 years ago while a poor student with a breakup occuring with my missus, I owned an XZ550.

45 000km on the clock with twin staintune pipes.

Powered by a 550 watercooled V-twin, most modern design of the period (1983) came with the upgraded carbs to reduce the "vision stumble" off idle. Also is the fully faired (read bodykitted) model which to date ive NEVER seen on the road, build number for australia in the 1xxx mark. (or lower... i may be mistaken).

Reviewers of the bike in the mid 80's said its engine was reminiscent of the ferrari testarossa when the bike was in full rev to 10K. nice power (bout 70hp) and a epically flat torque curve from down low to redline.

it ran, was in good condition but too expensive for me to register.
I sold it to someone in Marsfield for $400, where it has sat under a cover till the present day. I still talk with the guy, and he offered it to me for $250, untouched, never had the time to even look at it.

question is... should I? the work is easy enough. And hell, even if I dont get all the way, I could clean it up and sell it on for close to 1000 in its current state.

bit dirty is about right;
-2 years of collected grime, tarnish and muck
-the joy of having the bike partially stripped already (looks like its fallen apart haha) yet this is how i left it.
-the fun of seeing my bodg job on the exhaust (needs to be professionally re-done)

Actually there is a question I have to ask for anyone thats knowledgable, I have lost the original receipt of sale from the bike when I bought it 2 years ago.

I then sold it to the guy I recently bought it from.

How do i register it? would getting a signed receipt from the guy I bought it from be sufficient? because I cant prove ownership above that at all.

Well who was it last registered to?

If it was u you should have no problems. if it was him u'll need to get a signed letter or document from him stating that you have purchased the bike and have his contact details on it incase they wanna convert it

thats the thing, the first time i bought the bike was from a motorcycle wreckers (they sell unregistered, not written off / not damaged, just delapidated motorbikes). And ive lost the original receipt.
Edit: Ive contacted the RTA in relation to this at least, I'll see what they have in opinion, i dont think the wreckers would still have the original bluecopy but they should for audit reasons.
