[color=#000000ost_uid0]Thinking about buying new springs to drop the car 2.5", Looking at kings, pedders or whiteline.
Any suggestions, thoughts, comments, flames. I hunted through a few old posts and kings seems to be the favourite, but im open to suggestion. Cheers[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid1]Spring choice depends on what else you want to do
suspension wise. Kings work well on their own as they are harder poundage. The others work better when mixed with swaybars etc. The logic here is the spring doesn't have to do all the work so you can have a slightly softer ride as the swaybars are also preventing bodyroll. However if you don't think you will add sways then go the kings. You could also ask for a harder spring from the other manufacturers as well if there is a diff in the prices. [color=#000000ost_uid0]I wanted to try and get out with as little cash as possibly which is why I thought the spring only option. I sent a few emails out to a couple of suspension places to get quotes on springs only, springs + swaybar kits.
If I have the cash at the time, I would prefer the swaybar option but might end up with the spring option. Would it be advised to buy the softer spring and add the sways later, or will the ride be pretty rubbish without sways. I know I can get the whitline full low handling kit for ~$1300 from autospeed. That includes springs, shocks, rear sway, bushes, and caster/camber kits. They dont include the front sway because the package is designed for the GTX and apparently it comes with a front sway off the shelf. Shocks I probably dont need, factories seem to be holding well and I can always replace them later if need be. Need to price it up seperatly and see what that comes to. Either way your looking around $1500 for parts + installation. Being no mechanic I should probably get some1 else to do it [/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]An interesting spin. NRMA will only cover a car if it has been lowered upto 30mm (1 1/4") from original ride height and there must be a 100mm clearance from the road from the lowest point on the car. Guess im shopping for a new insurer..[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]That they do, but i get a relatively good deal from nrma as its in my olds name and they have everything but the dog insured.
Currently I would be looking at paying an extra 500-600 plus a bigger excess if I change so im in two minds.[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]As long as your name is listed as the primary driver, most companies will give you the same no claim. AAMI were willing to give me a 40% no claim which would give me a premium of around $1500 for an agreed value of $12500.
They are a little more lenient on mods but are still pretty anal. East Coast Suspension said if im going that low, I should replace the shocks with Koni sports... but I think that was a sales pitch as they are around a $1K whereas the springs are only $330. What you guys think... need to replace factory shocks if I go that low?[/colorost_uid0]

if it is the 89 - 94 then whiteline don't make a suspension kit, and there max lowering springs are ****, 2 bounce, i had them and my intercoola was 7cm of the floor, took them back and got there performance springs, which are about 2inches lower then standard.I have the full package done to my car now including koni shocks whiteline springs, whiteline struts and swawbars front and back, camber adjustments and an antilift kit.[/colorost_uid0] |

You can have wheels that are 1½" wider than standard. Wheels are about the only mod you can have with AAMI until you reach 25 [if you aren't already]. There was a thread on here somewhere that talked about all of this too..... I'll have a bit of a look. Adam[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]Just a quick question back to Mal [or Tony];
[quoteost_uid0]Kings work well on their own as they are harder poundage. *The others work better when mixed with swaybars etc.[/quoteost_uid0] What are the certain ride qualities of other spring manufacturers, ie; [harder, softer, combination of accessories like gas shocks, sway bars, etc] - Kings [harder..] - K-Mac - Eibach - Whitline etc?? What I'd like to achieve is a nice ride that is too hard, something similar to the SP20 on standard springs and something that doesn't bounce. In lowering between 2-2½", i will be replacing the shocks with gas units that are matched to the spring [shocks a little bit stiffer to avoid bounce], putting a strut brace across the front, upgrading the rear sway bars......... Cheers mate Adam[/colorost_uid0]

[color=#000000ost_uid0]if you'e going to upgrade the rest of your suspension with the bigger rear swaybar/bushes/strut brace, then personally i'd go the softer option with your springs.
i don't have any experience with the differnet brands (having the coilover sleeves + konis), but from memory, Whiteline wont/don't make springs with a 2 or 2 1/2" drop anymore... Pedders also make lowering springs too. Dogo's got them with about a 2" drop...[/colorost_uid0]
