Both my conversions have run a BP26 (japsec ECU). I have played around with a BP58 ECU and found it to have the same cut out...but yeah, all I was doing was upping the boost to see when/if it would cut. Only cut I got was at 5300rpm.
Its just very odd in Mals situation that it is cutting out below this RPM...though the Manuals I have read there is no other mention of a cutout besides the calculated cut. I'll post a pic.

mine boost cut around 14psi, never any lower, maybe the boost guage is not reading correctly.

Always got to take into account a pressure drop across the intercooler.
The boost cut is calculated by the AFM, so, as soon as it's sucking in the amount of air to produce 14.7psi, your cut will kick in, even if your only getting 12psi (in extreem cases) into the engine. :wink:

by the AFM?
Pressure drop across the intercooler? all sensors take pressure from the intake which is where the boost cut would come from...

yeh from what i understand the boost cut is triggered by the AFM. there isnt a manifold pressure sensor in the bpt as far as i know.
i remember Mal having a vacuum leak a while back, maybe the escaping air was the cause of boost cut hitting lower than 14psi i have heard of ppl hitting the cut at different levels tho, so maybe its not uncommon. |

All interesting.. I knew the AFM did the cut but never thought about the pressure drop to the
manifold. The 11psi can well be a combination of gauge out from using one feed for multiple devices, pressure drop over the i/c, I may still have a leak most likely from my BOV and finally from my small pipes great for response but may well be restrictive for higher boost. That would explain why when I had a bad leak the boost cut dropped cause the afm was still sucking in heaps of air. Still interesting this cut will happen at low revs eg 3200.

With all the talk of Overboosting...
Right o, here's one for ya guys. Overboost theory with Hybrid VJ20/VF10 turbo and ported wastegate... Part 1. Stock mangagement, afm in place, stock dump pipe, 3" Exhaust, 2.5" intake piping and GTX intake manifold - Overboost went to about 14psi and stoped, very rarely hit boost cut. Part 2. Stock management, AFM in place, 2.5" mandrel dump pipe, 3" Exhaust, 3" intake piping, GTR intake manifold - Overboost was going through the roof, hitting boost cut all the time by 5grand Part 3. Microtech ECU, NO AFM, 3" intake piping, 2.5" mandel dump, 3" exhaust, GTR intake manifold - No Overboost. Didn't change any boost settings or vacuum lines from above setup and was perfect throughout rev range. :? :? :? Please explain. P.S. I also posted this on fordlaser.com. Will keep updated with replies.

VF8/15R hybrid w/ ported wastegate, Haltech E6K, 2" Main, 1" Gate Dump into 3" cat into 2.5" exhaust all mandrel bent.
Holds 14psi in most gears, slight boost creep in 2nd gear in high rpms. (Around 16/17psi according to gauge but yet to verify against Haltech map sesnor readings)

this is good stuff. I recently got my BG 94 Astina SP and i'm already lookin at doing engine swaps :roll:
So according to the post about gearbox specs, if i get a BP-T from a GTX, it'll bolt upto my current G25M-R gearbox yeah? The reason i ask this, is because i think the clutch is on its way out, and if i'm planning on doing an engine swap later (prolly early/mid 2005) why not get a strong clutch now and not have to worry about it later! Reckon my plan will work? also, where on earth would i start looking for a BP-T GTX engine in Perth, WA :? |

You are correct the BPT will bolt up to any of the BP standard boxes either the F series
or G series. You obviously then need to upgrade your clutch to handle the extra power most have used a modified Daiken clutch which is a full face organic so is as light as easy for takeoffs but handles the extra power. Mal p.s Great that this has been pulled out of the archives

it hasnt been referred to much but what is the go with wiring. if i get a bpt and an aftermarket ecu is the wiring harness/loom still needed? reason i ask is a lot of people converting bgs use the wiring harness and the fuse box out of the half cut.

Thats only if they are running factory management if going aftermarket you use the supplied harness.

another q regarding ecus, r there ne good plug n play ecus for the gtx? and if u use the original harness do u need the rest of that stuff?

What do you mean by the rest of that stuff ??
The only plug-in ecu for the GTX that I know of is made by Link costs a fortune and you still need to dyno it. Compare that to a quote I was given for $1900 for a E6X wired in and dyno'd drive in drive out.

So if you get a E6X then you dont need it the GTX motor will come with half a harness so leave that on so that they can use the plugs to connect into the haltech wiring.
