remember once you spend all that money your never going to get back even half of what youve spent. the damm BG astina should have came standard turbo
it sux how it costs soo much money, id love to turbo my car, and ive actually got the money for it. but a slipping clutch and an engine which has done 306 000 kms prob not worth it |

That's the right time to think about the turbo. You could have the engine re-built to turbo specsso that when you add the turbo you have a nice package.

But a motor thats done 306K will require everything reco'd which when
you look at the head with new cams, valves, valve stems gets real expensive yet $1000 for a BPT motor or $2500 for a half cut you get a motor with a lot less kays on it ready to bolt in.

Hi all,
ok, I've raised a little cash and starting to think about upgrades again. But I still feel like I know nuthin about what I wanna to do So I'm compiling a list of all the parts that I will need to get a hold of to have a 'complete' BPT conversion package, ready to swap over into my baby. This will be helpful even if I do end up with a half cut, just so I know what I have bought So far I know of: - Motor : incl. injectors, fuel rail, plenum, throttle, cams, spark plugs, (edit) starter motor - Turbo : incl exhaust housing - ECU, loom, coils - Intercooler + intake piping - Ditributor + Ignition leads - Exhaust : dump pipe, catback exhaust to 2.5" or greater - Extras : hosing, clamps, lubricants, belts, etc (edit) - Air flow meter I'm not sure about these compenents, would I expect these with the motor? Could I use standard BP parts? - fuel pump - oil pump - water pump Optionally, I can add to my shopping cart - better fuel pump - fuel pressure regulator (adjustable or rising rate?) I definately want to keep auto trans, so I'm also looking at : - re-banding the trans - better fluid cooling + pipes - extra clutches Geez, this all sounds sooper expensive Have I left anything out? Have I included anything that I should get away with transferring from the BP setup? Once I have a list of everything, I'll look at individual part pricing, from forums, retail, dodgy guys at pubs, etc. then try and hammer that down as much as possible. If you go that way I have in the For Sale section
selling a GTX intake, a Link ECU with controller and base GTX map already loaded and also a I/C and pipes to suit a BA astina. You should be able to get by with your standard cams, fuel pump, fuel rail, dizzy, starter motor. Regards Mal

furthermore to differences in the motor...
the cams are different profiles to make more efficient use of the turbo. the pistons in the BPT are slightly recessed to bring the compression ratio down to 8.2 (BPT) from 9 or 8.9(BP DOHC) cant remember which one!?!?1 im not to sure as to whether the pistons are actually ne stonger in the bpt tho??? i was talking to one of the guys at Computech in town about two weeks ago and he said that they had just tuned a TX3 non turbs, for a turbo setup running about 6psi apparantly!! i asked what sort of ecu they had used and he said it was still the stock one... but it had ignition timing ajustments and such forth to balance it out. but he did mention it was pretty much at its limit! Halfcut is quite cost effective these days for $1800 - $2200 and then selling the 4WD Gearbox.
I Bought just an engine $1100 with all the hang-ons, Changed the Turbo, Clutch and added big intercooler. I ran it off my b6t computer and now have a Microtech. If you got enough dosh to do it in one hit I'd go like mentioned above. BPT Engine with Hang-one Microtech Computer Daikin Clutch Hybrid Intercooler and piping Especially in Astinas where its not all bolt in |

so if I picked up a BPT w/ turbo, and used the parts you have on offer, then all I would need is AFM and exhaust and I have enuff parts to get me going? The ecu you have, I'm assuming that would be good for if/when I do more enhacments in the future, as opposed to using a gtx ecu? The car will still be used for general driving, so will the one you have be ok with starting in cold conditions etc? (it's getting a bit chilly down here these days And what about difficulty of wiring it in? Reason I ask about the ecu is to justify the extra cost over factory ecus. @ Quick The only half cuts I've seen this year have been from $2500 to $3200, and these would be without box. And I haven't seen any for a while now, last few months. But if you know of any cheaper, let me know.... Dave. |

True Asian Auto were doing Familia Hlafcuts with the gearbox for $1800 a lil while back - they had 7 and then $2200. I think they have gone up to $2500 now due to demand.
My Engine only from Rolin was $1100 with all Hang ons. |

If you are getting a BPT (Which is the best idea) the only thing you would
want from me is the Link ECU. Doesn't require an AFM as runs off map. Compared to other ECU's like Haltek the Link is a simple install I just never got around to it as needed to install new I/C pipes to lose the AFM and make use of my larger turbo but never got around to it.

Is the turbo on the jap and aus BPT the same specs? Can I fit aus ecu to the gtx bpt? If I were to do that, would I be able to claim that the setup is essentially the same as the aussie tx3?

The Aus Spec and Jap Spec are exactly the same (same turbo etc.) - the only difference is that they use different ECUs as Sushi Land has 100 Octone Fuel.
Ie: Jap Spec ECu will make more power than the Aus spec as its tuned up. Just use the Jap Spec with 98 Octone Fuel and she will be sweet.....and make 134kW instead of 117kW. |
