i've got 8K on the T1S, thanks to twilight, still looks quite new. would probably get T1R after that, but definitely getting 205/50/R16, the car sit a lot lower in the front after the eibach pro kit, and i've scratched the front bar (yeah!) once, and somewhere under the car (exhaust pipe maybe) with four adult over a stupid speed bump at a mere 5KM/h.

also i'm paranoid about 205/45/R16 has a minimum "approved" rim width of 6.5" while our stock are 6". 205/50/R16 has a minimum "approved" rim width of 5.5". local tyre shop says they usually cab go half inch outside the range and never had problems.

anyway, the T1S holds really well.

I used to have Federals and they were excellent tyre for the rpice, gripped real well and had good wear ability as well as quieter than the stock Yokos that came with the SP20.
I upgraded my wheels to 17" chromes that came with 205/40/17 Kumho Ecstas which have been rubbish...rear sliding out on slow corners in the wet (scary) and no traction as well as noisy little buggers.
They are due for replacement in the next month and am going back to Federals.

195/50/16 Stock
205/40/17 +1

does anyone know if I can go 205/45/17 without damage or major speedo changes ?

204/45/17 will give you a speedo reading 2.5% too slow. ie driving at 100kph you'll be really doing 102.5kph

i have nankang ns-1's and they do good despite what people say . they are a 215/40/17 and probably would be better in a 205 but its cool. i have had pirelli's in the past which handled awesome but that was on an impreza so its hard to say how they would go on my sp20 as its not awd.

tyres are what keep you on the road so dont skimp when buying new tyres. hell if i had the coin i would have got pirelli pzero nero's but at 380 odd a tyre it becomes alot when buying 4 of them .

hey guys, just went to get four new tyres fitted today. got some goodyear eagle f1s gsd3... apparently they won a wheels tyre comparison a couple of years back. mine are 205/50ZR 16, and got them for $175 each at Doncaster Bob Jane T-Marts (nice staff there and most willing to do a deal, highly recommended!!).

they are noticeably quieter than the yokohama avs es100s i had on them before.

My Sumitomo HTRZII were $169ea at Bob Jane's up here in Logan vegas, at the time I got those the Goodyear Eagle F1s were $170each, and I figured I'd take a gamble on the Sumo's since noone else has tried them...

i got the eagle f1's too, good grip, quiet, tread is cool looking and they are great in the wet, just a bit too soft sidewalled on the 55 series 15's, oh and apparetly they should last long too. Loving it down here in logan-vegas now too! haha

Hey, now there's 4 of us we'll all have to get together for a traditional Logan coroberee some day!
My Sumo's are 205/45/ZR16, and they still squirm when they are cold, not sure if it's sidewall flex on them though, as the sidewalls have round shoulders and aren't that thick. It's probably just cold tyres not warmed up enough?

anyone got some opinion/knowledge on tyre pressures? i've been running on 35psi at all corners, but i found out today that the recommended is between 200 to 220 kpa, which equates to around 29-30 psi.

had a look at the toyo site and the proxes look pretty good with a nice tread pattern. 209 sounds pretty good

i'm thinking of trying the Maxxis Victra MA-21 next (in 205 or 214/40/17).

did well in the wheels tyre test, and seem pretty cheap.

Can't be any worse than the Hankook Ventus K104's i've got...*grumble*

ive got 205/45/R17 Maxxis MA-V1 on my new rims...no problems yet, of course you can break traction, but even in the wet they hold pretty decent...
