The gold chrome rims suit it!

I started masking & spray spainting my spare set gold type-D rims with some metallic gunmetal that I had laying around, will post some photos over the weekend

i have to add that those sushi full ABS drift tires grip fairly well after they wear in. its as good as my old ones and this is due to how far i can launch the car over a small bump (yes i jump it over a small imperfection between 2 slabs of concrete in my complex lol)

haha this here is about 2-5 degrees of diference in level as on slab is on a slight incline and another is fairly flat, so when i hit the joint between the two i get about 1 foot of travel throguh the air at which point the front comes down nicely and the back usually slams down a litle harder (and my chassis scrubs.. oh well it was only 100 all up haha)

The only way to prevent your chassis from getting scratched is to put 2 or 3 layers of contact on the bottom every so often. I'd to know how much air you would get with grip tyres on!

tony, if youre semi serious about drift try the HPI t-drifts. tehy come in either treaded or slick. they arent the same as ABS - slightly softer plastic and very predictable. about $20 for a set but last ages... months apareantly.

OK so I know it isn't drift but I thought I would show everyone my new RC car. Gav recently bought a short course truck and I have been thinking about getting an offroader again so went the same thing. It is a HPI Blitz which comes standard with a 15T motor but swapped that out for my 9T brushless and will put the other one in the drifter.

Here it is in all its orange glory.

Here is the main chassis with shots of where I had to relocate the speedy and receiver as the speedy motor cable were too short for anywhere else.

Had some fun with gav on grass and tarmac with the stock setup then later in the arvo went out with ryan to a bmx track for some fun jumps (hence why it is really dirty) with the faster motor installed.

Yeah it works great and keeps everything nice and central. Will be a pain if I want to move the battery more towards the front tho. Am thinking of making a cover over the receiver, battery and possibly speedy to keep all the large debris out and stop some of the dust. Funny thing is all the dust sticks to the black plastic parts but the motor and metal parts were still very clean. Weird eh.

If you want to be 1337, you can buy one of these.

Did you remove the fan? If so, does the ESC get hotter?

Gav.

That cover is exactly what I am after. No haven't removed the fan yet as it is hard wired into the speedy and am too lazy. Plus with cover on will be better to keep the air flow moving.

I've got one of those covers on the way, so hopefully that should keep a lot of stuff out. J-Concepts make one that is more popular, but you won't find it with good shipping costs...

The 9T EZRUN I had coming for the truggyja will go in the Blitz now. I will get a 12T for the truggyja, since that's actually better suited for it's abilities...

Jarrod: I've dropped my lid down 1 peg like yours, as I got sick of it rattling all the time.

Mine still rattles when going over rough terrain. I am getting large rub marks from the body posts so will put some felt down to protect it. The 9T works well but does get a little hot and the motor cables are quite short.

It will get hot compared to having had it in a drift car, where it doesn't work with any load. It prolly runs as hot as it would in other non-drift car. The motors are only $39 posted, so if they last a year, that's fine with me. I'm more worried about fowling up the gay little fan on the ESC. I'd love to know how we'd go removing the stock HSF and putting a decent Zalman NB heatsink on there or something.

Hmmm, I think mine is still going to rattle too. My paint has already worn through over the posts, but some material there would stop the rattling at least...

OK, the 9T 4300kV brushless arrived this morning, so I put it in the Biltz where it would do the most good. I took it for a run on mostly stock settings, aside from some tweaks to the braking and reverse. I found the insane wheel spin to be too much, so I've turned the punch right down to 1, and have lowered the timing to +7.5deg for the next run. The first battery lasted perhaps a little less than the stock 15T motor did, and there is a little bit of cogging if I just squeeze the trigger to crawl along. This might go after having dropped the timing and turning the punch down? I will know soon! I mounted the ESC in the standard position, as I can't fit the Receiver in front of the battery like with Jarrod's lipos. The wires for the motor are just the perfect length for this too.

EDIT: Reducing timing down to +7.5deg was a fail, so I upped it to +22.5deg and that worked quite a bit better. I'm now wondering if advancing the timing further would help more, or if I would go over the razor's edge? I don't think the punch setting makes much difference to minor cogging, so I've set it to 3/9 [tried 1/9, and stock 5/9]. Really the cogging is ONLY noticeable if try to crawl very slowly, and it doesn't stutter otherwise until the pack goes flat. I've also set the drag brake to 5%, as this feel like stock and gives better throttle-off steering. Initial brake force is at 20% with braking at 50%. I think that covers everything, so all I have to do now is line up Jarrod and see how 4300mah nimh goes vs 2S lipo.

Looking good there gav. I have ordered the cover for electronics and have been told to move the receiver as it will get too much damage there so will do that tomorrow. I also lowered the punch as it just wants to spin the wheels but I also lowered the reverse a little to stop the wobble and have no drag brake force Also am finding the standard shocks are not upto sctratch so will replace these but really need to upgrade steering servo first to a 9kg rather than the stock 5kg job.

Installed the 15t into the drift car and it is just as good as the brushless but probably a little slower at top speed. Unfortunately I have to use the nimh batteries and my black 4600 has died so only using the 3000 I got with the blitz. Found out today that my charger also doesn't charge off battery anymore so will pull apart later and find out why.
