Guide to taking the Body apart - 323 Astina SP20 BJII - 2003
Hi Guys,
I have just been hit today. No Idea who hit me as I was parked and in a meeting. So the damage is to the driver side, the rear light is smashed, the side rear panel is completely smashed and my driver side passenger door is also half ripped up. So my question is, are there any guides that show me how I can take those parts off? I was thinking of going to the wreckers and getting the door/panel that I need. I already have spare rear lights. Thoughts? |

The back side panel is not removable. It is welded to the roof and sill.

the only "guide" there is is the official bodyshop manual from mazda... but it is designed for body specialists and all it has really are measurements, paint mixture information, where to weld/cut, etc
I have the book... pretty useless since I'm not a body man

it's going to cost a couple of thousand at least!
the damage is pretty extensive... it will probably require some metal to be pulled back out too THIS IS NOT A DIY JOB UNLESS YOU KNOW BODY REPAIR THROUGH AND THROUGH!!! best to just call the insurance company... that's what they're for! I also suggest checking with the management of the car park to see if this incident was on CCTV

Ouch that is worse than when the bus hit me, but the cost should be similar.
As the damage is in the same place involving the same panels. I was quoted $2800 to repair similar damage on my car. Mine was a quote to cut the whole back corner out of the car and replace it with a new one. |

comparing yours to his phil, his will definitely go way past $3000... his rear door jamb got crushed too... that will require replacing at least part of the C pillar assembly and probably the wheel arch too

Mine suffered damage to the door jamb as well, that photo does not do justice to the damage done.
As I said my quote was for rear door, light and a whole new rear side panel. In the end they didn't replace it but the quote was for the correct parts so the cost should be similar/ |

Holy hell that's serious damage. Hopefully there is footage of it or someone saw something. Looks like a truck tray

That'll buff out, seriously!
In saying that, looks like the whole guard will have to replaced, along with a new door... Makes me wonder what insurance would say about mine

Just so people have an idea of costs involved as all parts needed are listed.
The labour should be similar as this quote was for replacing the same damaged quarter panel, door and light. well, i should also point out that I don't have comprehensive insurance
And as this is hit and run, I have no one to blame, there are no cameras, no witnesses, no notes. Just crap! I don't what to do now, might just go out and buy a new car. I will get some quotes, I might go buy a door from the wreckers (if I can find one), but that rear panel is where the cost is. Are the doors any diff on SP20 and standard? What about the sedans? |

You will need a door off a hatch, 1.6,1.8 and 2.0 all have the same doors, the trim will differ and the new door may have electric windows or not.

OK, thanks, the electric windows still work in my car, the interior trim is still in good shape as well.
Its more of a can opener effect on that door. I am sure it was a truck with a bull bar that just happened to get into my lane for .5 second. Just long enough to cut open the side. |

I might also just strip the car as much as possible before I drive it into the shop to cut back the cost, I have spare garage space and a spare car for 2 months to put it all together.
Will try and take the door off, bumpers, anything else that may cost them time and me money. |

your on the right track source your own parts heeps cheaper than $400 for a door wtf? And try and do most of the labour yourself e.g strip the car down as much as you can and then put as much back together. At the end of the day the car still drives and is merely cosmetic so dont go buying another car just yet
