Wider Tyres?

Hey guys,

Im just about the to join the turbo club!!! OHHH YEAH half cut is in the garage.

As im getting it ready to go in im going to be preparing the actual car for it too... eg doing brakes, and tyres and other stuff.

With the tyres, i dont have big rims... they are actually just stock. 16" x 6.5" i think???? what i want to do is hopefully get a bit of extra grip by just putting on some slightly larger tyres cos im too scummy and poor to buy good rims
Im hoping to fit 195/55 tyres on to the rims. (thanx to the rim calc thingo).
But can anyone advise whether i may run into problems like this. Scrubbing, too much tyre wall flex. And has anyone actually tried this before?

Cheers Jeremy

if the BG in ur avatar is ur car then stock tyres where only ever 14" or 15"....so if they 16 they not stock...i have 16 x 7" rims on mine with 205/45 toyos, car is also lowered 30mm and i have no problem at all with scrubing....

i thought the BG only ever came with a max of 14's? if not please tell me cause that makes my 17's legal

as far as your tyres go you can run up to 205's no worries, 215's sometimes scrub depending on your rim offset and the brand of tyre (its a tight fit against that rear strut!) just dont get anything too expsensive as you will be frying em in no time until you get used to the boost

haha oppps sorry guys i was half-asleep when i put the post up. Middle of exam period does that to ya.

But yeah it wouldve been nice ay! 18" rims.... LEGAL! nah sorry no go.

yeah i was more worried about the fact that the tyres might scrub because of the standard offset and the slightly wider tyre even tho it is only a few mm?

Adam ill come round and pick ur brain in the coming week cos ill be done with exams! HELL YEAH

Cheers
Jeremy
