not really, but it may be an uncessary expenditure considering your only going for a low boost setup and the hiflowed turbo may only benefit you in a power band you will never see.
Some people throw the word around as well, so you may be paying extra for just a rebuild. Ask the question and see what he says.

preeman - just be careful with the amount of boost you're planning on running. the sp20 has 9.7:1 comp ratio stock. the sp20 also has notorious (spelling???) for weak as piss connecting rods. i personally wouldnt venture past 5psi on that comp ratio unless you change the rods....or better yet, get lower comp pistons. guys in america get 9.1:1 comp pistons stock. they are blowing engines (ie rods mainly) at 8psi almost daily.
urrr...that's all i can think of to watch out for at the moment |

I know the stroke and piston pin placement is different than a BP but are the
rods longer. The B6T rods are an awesome looking rod reminds me of a mini LS7 BB Chevy rod . If the journal size and length were the same would make a good cheap upgrade compared to aftermarket rods. Got some for my BPT rebuild for like $70 for 4

hmm.. blowing engine sounds bad.. stop scaring me..... :shock: ops: :cry:
what about using a metal head gasket :?: Will that be better than lower comp pistons? Quote:

i strongly suggest taking a good amount of time and reading through the Forced Induction section on www.msprotege.com as well as the engine management section. also look through the mazdaspeed protege section. you'll start to get some ideas of what can go wrong and how to avoid it.
a thicker head gasket will do the same function (in theory) as a lower comp piston, but this is the easy fix. I am trying to organise a group buy in head gaskets (ranging from 0.021" thick to 0.090" thick (stock is 0.040")) on www.msprotege.com - when it gets moving i will let you know. it's just taking a lot of time via email to arrange |

well.. now the other thing is.. just revisitd the US turbo sites.. and..
The Hi-boost kit is 3,995USD The Flyin Miata kit is 3,680 USD (they are closing down) is it worth while buying these, instead of building from scratch? |

both are good kits, but as the name suggests, the hi-boost kit puts out more boost than the flyin miata/protege kit.
i personally would still go totally custom is i were doing a turbo conversion |

But I was looking at the cost? It seems to me that the hi-boost kit with all the parts would be cheaper than locally sourced parts? (maybe I am looking at the wrong spots?)
I still have to check how much the E6X install will be from wiredone. I don't really trust people on this? I just think if you don't know the car it can be very dangerous.. |

it will cost much more to buy stuff locally yes...i'd suggest importing the parts you want directly.
i was more suggesting building the system to how you want it with local and o/s parts...it'll cost more, but will be exactly what you want |

the problem is that I don't really know what I want.. except.. I want it to be turbo and move pretty quick... doesnt have to be a rocket.. but ok...
