Jynx: hmm.. from what David is saying, I think he wants me to get a bigger intercooler, therefore more space in it, thus creating a pressure drop? rather than a small intercooler to restrict air flow and starve the turbo? does that make sense?
With a bigger intercooler, i should be able to up the boost without needing another intercooler? big intercooler = better cooling? |

I have a 600x300x75mm core which has a pressure drop of < 0.5psi at 15/16psi of boost so dont rely on an intercooler to restrict your boost.

Yeah, but that's probably 'cause you're running 15/16PSI?... wouldn't the pressure drop increase if you lowered the boost to the 7PSI we are talking about?... (big intercooler+low boost = not enough boost to fill the space = pressure drop?)
Also using larger pipes would aid in the pressure drop?

Yes but will also result in a very laggy setup. To get optimal response from the boost generated by the turbo you need to balance the IC and pipework to match.
Big intercooler and piping is not the right way to go about reducing boost.

yeah, so how else do you suggest we get a turbo with the wastegate set to 7PSI to only produce 5PSI?
I doubt he'll even notice the lag going from a NA set-up to a FI set-up anyway....

hmm.. This might not even be an issue, if as confirmed, I can actually run 7PSI safely?

Firstly try changing the tensio on the actuator rod. You may be able to adjust +-2psi with that. OTherwise you will need to port the gate to flow enough gas to hold the turbo @ 5psi.

We are heading out from the gong. The screamer pipe mate is a real bad idea.
I also dont understand your logic with spending money on reducing your pipework just leave you exhaust stock that will be restrictive enough. Another thing is if you are only running 5psi you dont really need an I/C as the heat in the air is from being under pressure not from the exhaust heat so low boost low heat. If you really want one can sell you a GTX one good for 11psi for $30 or complete with intercooler piping from turbo to intake manifold for $100. Its all Jimbo's but I want it out of my garage.

also be carefull on wat size fmic u run or again ur losing boost ie too much air with to much travel time through the cores an pipe work

Mal: I wont see you guys.. I am only going to KK & MAC @ livo
The GTX intercooler thats for a 1.8L (?) with a smaller turbo than the one I am talking about(?) or it doesn't matter since it can handle 11psi? I am happy to take the cooler and the piping but is it going to do me any good? Then again I know 3 people with the Familia's so maybe handy for them. |

Turbo size is not necessarily propotional to intercooler. The GTX core is fine for >11psi applications. Anything above that and its not efficient enough to be of any use.
I also have a heap of familia equipment for sale. Panels, bonnet, headlights, indicators and some other stuff. Give them my contact details, as Mal said, I mainly want to get rid of it. So if your mates want some spare panels or a spare bonnet, look me up. Most of it is in good condition.

Having the extra piece of pipe joined say 50cm down from the turbine will cost u more in labour and materials of course... some say they work ok, some say otherwise.
If stock boost is 7psi u should run an intercooler, the exhaust may bump that up to 8psi anyways but u won't know until its on ur car. I'd just keep the air/fuel mixtures fairly rich and make sure a competant show does the mapping... and pay a little bit extra for an ok computer, at least get a chiptorque chip for it... something better a microtech or haltech etc etc..... The CT26 should be suited to your car, its a fairly big unit and will flow enuf air at 7-8psi to make a great gain around (60-80%) depending on exhaust and other factors. I'd probably recommend a bigger fuel pump, but a malpassi fuel regulator should be able to provide enuf juice on the original injectors for that power. I probably should read all trhe posts so far, only gfot thru page 1, ooops... most of this has probably been said already.... ops: Ohh, clutch will need to be upgraded, soft pieces of pus mazda make. Anyways, have fun.

Here it is.. I think I have run into turbo problems already, it needs a rebuild, so it seems I am getting rebuild and hi-flowed (?) at the same time? Thoughts ideas??
Mazda FS 2.0L ? is that the motor I currently have in the 2003 323 SP20? If so I have been looking at the right ECU Kits etc. Still working on the overall price of this baby! slowly but surely! |

I could've done it to my series IV turbo for another 30-50kw without raising the boost.
