Exclamation EOI - Poly Window Bushings for BA series Astina.

Hey guys,

As you may or may not know myself and a few other members have been discussing the possibility of doing a run of polyurethane bushings for the window runners in hatch/hardtop BA Astinas.

The thread in question can be found here.

They would look similar to this:

These would replace the rubber bushings that are used inside the assembly, which perish after some time and cause the windows to become loose.

They then make a lot of noise when opening/closing the door and behave erratically when winding the window up and down.

This is a picture of (one of) the bad bushing(s) in question.

Ryan (project.r.racing) has been able to chase down a quote on getting them made up, upon which they have replied stating the following:
  • A setup fee of $203.50AUD (including GST) must be paid to cover manufacture of the mould.
  • A minimum of 100 of each bushing must be made per run.
  • Bushings cost $2.20AUD each (including GST)

This is a pretty big outlay for one person to cop, and this is a common problem with Astinas...so why not do a GB?

Of course, this is still an Expression of Interest at the moment, as it is important that there is enough demand for it due to the high initial outlay.

It has also popped up there is a third bushing that should be replaced in the procedure as well. Taking this into account the following is true:
  • A minimum of 25 sets must be made.
  • This would include four of each bushing, which would be enough to fix all four doors.
  • The cost per person (including your contribution towards the moulds) would be as below (dependant on amount of sets sold)

I believe that Mazda will make you buy an entire assembly for much more than $50 just to fix these bushings so we all consider this a bargain!

To register your interest please answer "Yes" to the poll and post in this thread in the next 14 days or so.

Cheers guys

Unsure yet.

In my mind, this thread is to see whether or not there is enough interest to bother going through with the purchase in the first place. This seems to be one thing that is an uncertain, so I figured I might as well put it out there.

At the moment it's an issue of whether we've got enough interest.

Last I've heard is Ryan (project.r) was thinking of paying for the minimum outright and selling them for $70/set, if we didn't.

I'm going a little easier on spending for the next few weeks, but after that I'm keen to start chasing this again considering I'll have to pop the doors open to fit my power mirrors anyway lol
