17x9 +25/15 all round on a sp20 hatch
hey guys just new to this forum and a proud owner of a yellow 2002 323 sp20 hatch.
prior to this i have owned many imports (r33s, r32s,180sx) and that is all i have owned ever since i had my license but now i have bought this as a daily driver. i have pretty good knowledge on fitting wheels as i am a wheel whore LoL but have no idea what i can fit under a sp20. now i need to know if the specified sizes will fit "17x9 +25/15" inside the guards with possibly 215/40r17's. i am also at looking at lowering it in the very near future with springs but not super low, i am looking for legal low. i am prepared to modify guards and so on and i am also aware that there will be abit/alot of wheel pokage but that is also what i want , although i just need to know if this is doable or just stupid as i have no idea what the guards on these things can take plus space on the inside of the wheel. any help would be awesome! |

checkout mazdas247 for a thread about aggressive wheel fitment/hellaflush i think it's been done but requires a lot of guard work and camber.

ah awesome thanks for that guys.
i found an awesome page for sp20 fitment. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showt...oll-Call/page2 the black sp20 on that page is running 17x9 +35 and 17x9+10 and it looks pretty good. i am gonna do 17x9 +25 all round and i'm pretty sure that should be safe enough compared to the 17x9 +10 that guy is running on that forum although i will try and fit either a 215 40 on instead of a 195 40. 195 40 is just stupid on a 9. i'll see how i go. |

Poke isn't legal here though for a road car, you'd need to have flared arches or otherwise be a little less adventurous with the wheel width/offset. You can probably still stretch though, can't say I've ever heard someone getting done for it.

any reason why you need such big rims? the little FS-DE will have issues moving all that extra rotational weight around.

Speaking of legalities, just watch how much extra track (distance between the centrelines of the left and right rims) you end up with. I know in Queensland, you are not supposed to increase the track by more than 25mm.

yeh i know about the legalities guys and in vic everything here is illegal lol.
driving an import cops will want to do you for anything, for example one of my friends got defected for having a half full water bottle and bad windscreen wipers because they couldn't find anything else wrong with his skyline LOL. i am prepared though for the circumstances and i have been with all my cars and i don't want anything too crazy but i want good fitment and i think i can speak for everyone that i haven't seen or yet to see awesome wheel/tire fitment on a sp20 on a road here in vic. wheel weight i am actually thinking about now although alot of people are running 18" stock mazda wheels like cx7s and mazda 3/6 mps' and usually they weigh around 10kg's. the wheels i want to get in 17x9 weigh just under 10kgs. |

Legalities aside, if you were to run the +25 on the rear with a 10mm spacer, extreme rolling of guards and dialling in a lot of camber, you may just get it the wheels to sit flush...
All I can say is, I await to see pics!

yes indeed once i get everything done i will post pics but it may be a month or 2. need to lower the car also and in saying that...anyone got some good lowering springs for sale? LoL
you reckon +15 would look better marc? the thing is i don't really want to be running epic camber so i think a +25 will be good enough but we'll see how i go. |

10kg rims will be fine. lots heavier rims fitted to SP20 pout there.
from rough calculations, i do not think the +25 offset rims will have clearance against the struts. (so the spacer may have to happen). i did a calculation between 7.5 wide +42 and your listed rims. the +15 had 8mm more clearance the the 7.5 rims (allows of more camber) but the +25 rim had 2mm less clearance. so no room for camber adjustments at all. those whom run 18x7.5 rims will be able to tell you how much clearance they have. |

i'd be more concerned you wanna run 215 tyres on a 9 inch wide rim.

just a quick update guys. i had no idea how this would of turned out but i decided to try my avs 5's in 17x8 +38 and 17x9 +38 that i had lying around on the sp20.
the sp20 did not take the 17x9 +38 at all due to clearance issues with the shocks although the 17x8 +38 fitted very well. it actually had some pokeage at about 3mm and had no issues with touching anything but in saying that i have not lowered the car yet. heres a picture of the wheels on the front. they stuck out a little more on the rears. tyres are 225/45r17 continentals. 17x9 +25/15 would poke out stupidly LoL. i think i will stay in the region of 17x8 +30. |

If the budget accomodates, I'd be looking at coilovers for a bit more room clearance wise

was bored so i chucked the 33's wheels on it LoL
TE37 18x9.5 +12 but in all seriousness i have found some avs model 6 wheels which are lightweight and in 17x8 +30 which should be good. once i get them i will put pictures up of fitment. |

I have 16x7 +35 all round and I had to get my rear guards rolled. The fronts are fine.
I'm happy with the look just want king spring super lows now. |
