afaik thread was taken off some american board, can take it off if you want.
i gather those threads, put them together with some worthy comments/additions and convert them to pdfs... so they're always compact and complete...(btw: authors are always credited properly in the pdfs) |

yes, all of those were taken off the www.msprotege.com forums
i dont have any problem with you taking my work if you ask for it first and i'm sure most of the ppl on msp feel the same and since i'm a mod of 2 sections on msp i would like to request that you take down the page until you have asked for permission to post other people's work |

twilight, you can't expect me to take ~250+ html pages offline for the feeling that some people might not like 1 of them which include the howtos...
i've now written mails/pms to the people whose permissions i still need... that's an appropriate measure, everything else is unneccessary. @nate: luckily i'm sitting in germany, so there's simply no possibility i can be legally held responsible if some crackheads fail to use the howtos properly. but nevertheless i added some additional disclaimer... |

yeah but copyright laws and International Intellectual Property laws say that this is required prior to making that post
having said that i think your maintaining a good site, but those are issues that need to be addressed

some of those authors i had asked, some of them i had not asked...
main reason: as soon as you publicly broadcast your work (~forum, website, wherever), you must express your will, that although you publicised it, you still want to have control of if and where your work is displayed or not.... companies or people usually do this by putting a copyright remark on/in/at your work. so if an author does not claim this <copy-right>, then i can assume that he agrees with third parties displaying his work... (not to be mixed up with the question what kind of rights the "author" always has when somebody is trying to use the author's work for his own purposes (e.g. profit)) but let's be clear: most people do not put any remark under their work and still feel ignored when somebody displays their work. i don't want to be snippy when people come and complain about anything like that, that's why i try to get their agreement. |

i posted that how-to solely for the purpose of the msprotege.com forums and no body else. i put a fair bit of effort into that how-to as you can see and people using it for other forums/websites is wrong. copyright does not need to be written or expressed. those articles remain intellectual property of the author and the author has the right to do what they want with it. think of it this way, copyrights are not written on university assignments, yet you can be failed for copying someones work....
i dont expect you to take 250+ pages down, i only expect you to take 1 - the one showing the links to the how-to - until you have permission to post the items. |
