Both mine & Matt/Swift Jimmy are proof of this, sure you can go a piggyback to gain that extra 700rpm & a little more power, but IMO its not worth it. and going ZE ECU is a nightmare knocking on the door...

It isn't to hard to make a copy of the K&N Typhoon that a few QLD members have. They seem to be a well designed intake and there is heaps of intercooler piping available on eBay for cheap ATM so I suggest you make your own as it is a fairly simple design.
I am going to remake mine soon this way so I am more than happy to help you make one.

The ECU isn't needed but can be done.
To get the ECU from the FS-ZE working you will need a modified 4WD Manual ZE loom or a 1.8 FP-DE Manual loom will be have to be modified to add the extra wires needed for the missing sensors.
I only installed the ZE ECU because I had it and the somewhat correct loom.

I disagree Marc there is no nightmare with running a ZE ECU the work I have put into Phil's car with the wiring and the information I have in putting a ZE into a 1.8 car there is no problems - the only one I have heard from Phil is the bad earth out from the injector harness

You can still use the harness from the 4wd auto to 2wd manual if you know what you are doing - I have looked into this and have started diagrams - but stopped since others wanted to run aftermarket ECUs and add more trouble

As you said Jarrod, running a ze ecu in a 1.8 car is fine, I get that, but what about for a 2.0? Take into consideration OBDII as well, you take that away or it doesnt work properly, your bound to get in trouble with the authorities...

and I ask my initial question again... why bother?

Other then the Emanage which dont have a setting for our cars I cant think of any piggybacks that will allow you to advance timing making it pointless on a NA car.

Sleepy was able to run the emanage by using a modified BP harness with a few other tweaks to get it running.

Id love to see someone go with a ze ecu just to prove that it isn't as much of a headache as everyone thinks.

lol I'm trying to get there with the pics between work, organising the engine parts /parper work which i'm scared to death of i haven't had much time to just sit back, and take pics.
the car is fairly standrard at the moment until jarrod gets his hands on it, then body work to fix front bar, but i'll start a build thread when the parts start arriving there will be pictures there so i can show berfore and after.

This motor being done before yours now Ice88 , can you please have everything ready to go for yours within 2 weeks of this one finishing .
Would suggest both of you concentrate on getting your own parts organized only . Remember guys Iam using someone else's shed and to pick up all old parts etc as soon as possible. My deadline for all this to be done is the first of march.

if you're that worried, run the J48 Sport20 ECU... it's semi-OBD2 like the 1.8 has

then again, the older Sport20 ECUs does output very limited OBD2 diagnostic codes... if you want that, then you can just wire the existing OBD2 connector under the SP20's dashboard to work with the FS-ZE loom... I talked about this ages ago in another thread and I determined that it should work

Im not to worried about the ecu atm since im running close to the end of my budget. i'm more concerned about getting the bits and pieces of my body work fixed more the getting the last little bit of power out of the car.....
