Sound deadening

hi ppl, was wonderin wat is the best brand 4 deadening the boot n any ideas on where i can pik it up cheap???

Actually i was going to get some of that spray on tar stuff that ou can buy at all good auto shops.. I was just going to spray the inside of my boot and lay some felt over the top [the tar goes sticky i believe] to reduce some of the road/exhaust noise a bit..

You should be able to pick up a can of this stuff for less than 10 bucks.. 2 cans should see you through your boot i'd imagine..

don't forget the boot has seals - if your having issues check them out, as they might just be bad...

oh and you have a big pane of glass too - not too good for sounds....

also while your busy with it, don't forget the floor - its only 3mm of steel between the boot and the road... this should be sparayed from the bottom of the car, but i can't see anyharm in doing it from above the sheet metal... jsut you need to be handy with that felt to make it look half decent, without making a mess somewhere down the track

Am goin to sound deaden my 2 front doors with G-Spot Flexi Max soon.
how much of the stuff do i need?

Small - 1.3m x 0.7m

or

Large - 1.3m x 1.35m

u can never haf enuf sound deadening. but to do the job u'd prolly need a large roll to do both the door panels n the frame inside it.

large. and a tin of the paint would be good too.

a good idea is to stick foam underfloor deadening to the plastic panels in the boot too. to stop them vibrating / rattling.

when james and i pulled apart all my boot lining - yeah to get to the rear struts...tell me about it :P - behind all the plastic panels was quite a bit of soft, grey foam. it definately takes the impact and softens the noise. however, since manipulating all the foam my boot now seems to rattle more than it used to....hmmmm :roll: must check that out one day. so make sure if u're deading boot noise, to pack the foam in correctly.

yeah its only rattling still because no one could be arsed to take the million and 3 panels out to get to the strut

i still think its your tailgate being vibrated more by the stiffer springs

If you want some details about who to contact about the SoundOff sound deadening stuff I can probably dig them up for you, or just contact BlackIce on CarAudioAustralia.

If you're after a cheap alternative, you can try Flashtac - which can be bought from Bunnings. I'd used it in my last car and worked pretty well I thought.

For the front doors, you'll definitely need large pack to get it done properly. And the tin of paint Dogo suggested is handy too for those hard to reach places.

if u have money to spend get dynamat which is generally agreed to be the best ( and unfortunately most expensive ) stuff.

in the BA the boot floor is like a plastic floor over a plastic frame. very prone to rattling when u stick a sub on it.

ive got a combo of dynamat and g-spot and 1cm foam sheeting. it works really well for me. On the old astina I had flashtak which did the job but peeled off.

but ive heard good stuff abot g-spots stuff on CAA....so ill most likely learn towards them.

what about carpet underlay??? i only say this because my parents are having the rental house recarpetted (brand new carpet put in three years ago and the tennants let the cat pee all over it - thank god for insurance ) and i was going ot try and score some off cuts cheap from the carpet guys
