Going to be making a CAI... suggestions please
hey Guys,
have had the idea in my head to make a nice CAI for the SP20, along with a nice polished aluminium air feed box. My intentions are to just get some 3" pipe with a 90degree turn which would feed into the box that I would make to behind the passenger side headlight and moving the washer bottle. One area that I am intigued about is the stock intake, would I be able to somehow modify to not just ram air into the OEM factory filter and run a flexi pipe to the new air feed box? I basically want to do this... any suggestions on how to do it etc would be appreciated

A heat shroud maybe? I want to see if I can still retain part of the originial cold air induction that came factory, but want to know if its worthwhile at all... I just want idea's as to how i should do it, pro & cons etc.

Ok coolies, What im going to be doing is just getting a 2& 3/4" pipe with a small bend so it can run straight from the afm/maf (whatever it is) , clamping it and running it inside the box to the pod. Now i looked under the bonnet, and there is a hole under the washer bottle, would it be feasable to run a flexi pipe from there to say behind the passenger driving light/foggie?? Where else would I be able to run a pipe to get direct cold air for better efficiency?
Cheers. marc

spot on orion. that works well for stock intake manifolds and throttle bodies, not so well for custom ones

I removed the factory air box and piping and got some parts to make your own intake from an auto parts store, and moved the washer bottle and put a k&n pod filter directly under the hole where the washer bottle is, i tried mounting it directly in the fog light hole but found it made no difference to mount it where it is, other than its not directly exposed to dirt, it now has more power and sounds a lot better. (Intake is louder than exhaust)Its also a lot more responsive.
I have put pics on my profile of my attempt at a cold air intake. |
