V6 igniter failure
Either pick-up a replacement distributer or look for 'V6 disty mod' here, mx6.com or probetalk.com

This morning I also encountered the same problem. mine is 1997,1.8lt. It just happened while i was driving to work and twice the engine completely stopped. I had to crank few times to get it started and if i press the accelerator quickly then the engine hesitates , bogs in. But if I press it slowly then engine runs smoothly and rpm increases smoothly. I'm guessing fuel related problem and tonight when I go home I'll start my investigation and update any findings that may help you!

This is just a suggestion......replace your sparkplug leads, as it sounds like it's breaking down under load. I have had a similar problem in the past with my AE86, and I replaced all sorts of stuff $$$$$ and I didn't even think of my leads.....doh!!!

im sorry if this is too late, but your 10 clicks were they different timing, as in were the first few longer than the rest, cus going by that guide is code number 46(4 long 6 short) 28(2 long 8 short) and thats your VIRS solanoid valve no2 or EGR solanoid valve (vacuum) so from this its not electrical, and if your planting your foot and you get this responce, the VIRS might open up in the intake but it might go funny and partially close up half the cylinders, causing difference in suctions for the banks and this might occur. its like choking half the engine. i reccomend you open the intake manifold up and check it and honestly i would remove the VIRS butterflies all together, they can cause alot of trouble
hope this helps |
