Lowered Suspension

Hi All
I have just become a member and have been searching to find info about lowering a 1998 BA astina for my son, I can get super low king spings which are about 50mm lower than standard, but I do not think it would be low enough and was thinking about 65mm, is anyone able to advise if they have gone this low and if so have they had any issues, your comments would be appreciated
Thanks
pete

ive got a set of springs lower both for sale at the moment, here is a link to the for sale thread and info on them - http://www.astinagt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17026

there are two options for going that low,

1 - coilovers, get a nice set of BC or D2 coilovers which are height adjustable, damper adjustable, and camber adjustable, but they are usually about $1200 new,

or

2 - lower springs which it seems is the method you have started,

i think thats about it, im sure other people with have more to add to this,

Welcome to AstinaGT, Pete.

By trying to go much lower than 40mm or so, you'll be reducing the life of the shocks and they'll be bottoming out a lot more as their travel will be greatly reduced, in my opinion

Oh that's something I never knew. Lowering your car with stock shocks, reduces their life?

Yup, and if they are already 5 year old. They'd be dead in a year.

65mm is a massive drop. The rears are okay, but the fronts will rub when turning depending on tyre rolling diamter and width.

I have had my car as low as 70mm at some stages in it's lifetime. It is a pain n the a@#e most times. Lots of driveways at angles. Chassis rail dropped on everything and anything. Decreased handling charactrisics. But is does look the sex.

Any reason why you need it so low?

I'm not sure how much mine is lowered. But I'm guessing that its a fair bit. So I'll be looking forward to buying new shocks in the future hahah
