SP23 rims on SP20

hey all...
just curious on how hard it would be to get a set of sp23 rims, and the average price?? Do mazda sell these things over the counter?
specs off mazda.com.au:

SP23
205/50R17 89V
17 x 6.5 J (alloy)

I was thinking about mazda 6 rims, but I think the 6.5 width of the sp23 would make it sit deeper, maybe a bit more fat... just my opinion tho...
cheers!

Dave

youd be looking at something like $450 a rim. without tyres. for that kind of cash you could get something way more origional.

personally if you want to keep it stock looking then mazda 6 17"s would be a be a better option and more readily availible but thats just my opinion

SP23 rims would only be a worthwhile sort of option if you got them from someone who changed their rims pretty much straight away and therefore came with some rubber as well. And I've seen a few people asking about interest in their wheels so its worth asking around.

I'm jelous that you guys can even do this, my poor little 1.8 really only has the MX5 to look up to when it comes to factory wheels. And there's noone parting with 17" factory Racing Hart alloys any time soon for a good price...

But I guess the my wheels are just a fat chunky gay version of the Mazda rims, atleast that's why I got them...

Very shortly you will see brad from up my way wearing a set of sp23 rims on his silver sp20 protege sedan, he also lowered his car today so when the wheels go in, that will be one very smart protege.

please keep in mind that SP23 rims r a retarded width of 6.5" instead of 7" which is the norm. i still reckon mada 6 rims r the go
seen 2 sets. one at the tyre factory dandenong agggges ago. they wanted like $900 for the set without tyres. and another set which is still sitting in seaford mazda in the spare parts foyer.

cheers mike

you might wanna check the laws where you are...coz up here they would be illiegal due to the circumference (my 204/45 R17 are legal by 0.1mm so the 50 series would be a bit more...)

+15mm or -26mm is the qld law...

tyre diameter can be +15mm to -26mm not tyre circumference.

tyre width cannot be more than 1.3 times the widest manufacturer tyre available (so the sp20 with 195mm wide tyres you can go to 253mm width if you really wanted to)

there is no wheel limits in qld so long as the tyre fits into the above. hell if there was such a tyre you could get 175/30/20 tyres (but man that'd look crap!!!) 215/30/19 fits too

I'm considering going to 205/50/16 on my next set of tyres so that I can close the gap to the guard and make it look lower without drastically making the walls thicker. Anyhow, the problem is this puts me 0.3mm over the +15mm limit. I noticed the RTA read to whole 1mm increments, so this mean that 15.3mm rounds down to 15mm legally?
And depending on what I do with my wheels, 205/40/17 puts means only just slightly under the stock size. But I'm currently a little bit undersized with the 205/45/16...
