SP20 Cam belt

hey guys, just curious has anyone changed a cam belt on a sp20?. if so how long did it take and how hard was it. I have done it on other cars before but i was quoted close to $700 to get it done and considering the belt is only $70 i think its worth a shot.

Any advice or info?

cheers!

cam belt being the same thing as the timing belt is it not? I only recently realised that the timing belts are external these days, I'm used to my old timing chain in my 1982 beasty which was lots to change over cause it was internal. Now that I have realised that they are external why on earth do they still charge the same amount for internal ones.

You still gotta do a lotta work 2 get to it: take off the valve cover, remove the dust cover, then use lots of force while not damaging the friggin thing. Mind you it took minutes to do on the manual here, but a couple of hours on the gay auto...!

yeah there is more to it then just slipping a belt off

I think the one I saw get done at work involved undoing a mount and p's pump and few other bits and pieces

the mechanic doing the one I saw at work has 7 years experience with Mazda.

It took him a bit over 2 hours from Memory
