Motorsports: BG Astina or Protege/Familia
hi everyone. i'm currently looking at purchasing another car for doing double duty as street car on weekdays and racecar on race weekends, particularly autocrossing. i'm decided on keeping it within the mazda family and it's come down to the bg astina and protege/familia. would anyone have an idea which of the 2 will be a better for motorsports? or are they just the same with regards to performance potential?
*mods, i'm not sure if this is the proper section to post this. kindly move this post/thread to where you see fit. thanks. |

thanks bourbon. i was told by an astina owner here that the bg astina has a race-bred suspension out of the box compared to the bg familia. but i'm having doubts to that claim since i always thought that the astina and familia basically have the same suspension design.

hmmm...i wasn't able to give out this little info earlier. only the fwd variants of the astina and famila/protege was ever released here in the philippines. and only the 4-door sedan variant of familia/protege was available here.

BG astina doesnt have much performance parts
but you can use the strusts and springs from a Laser Kx something model...same as BG chassie??? so if they made performance parts for the laser, you can use them for the Astina but yes Familia's/ 323 have more upgrades in the books

The trouble is, the BG Familia is almost 20 years old now, and they don't make alot of decent parts for it these days - you end up paying stupid prices for secondhand stuff.

i always thought there were heaps of stuff for the familia.....especially suspension and even if there isnt aftermarket you always crossover different components....turbo compressor etc...

so i guess it's the bg familia then. it would be interesting though to see how competitive the astina would be.

well most people do put a GTX/GTR engine into there BG...its a common swap...with hardly any "grey" area's so most often it is performed....
