Quick Question on BJ rear door speakers
Hey guys, quick question
In the market for a crazy sound system. Going to get a 15" sub + amp plus need front 5x7's and rear 6x9's but apparently the BJ Sedans have a 6" hole in the rear door. Should I get a pair of 6" speakers to put in the back doors? Will they improve the sound or it is hardly worth the extra $2-300? |

it's not going to add to any audio quality or definition for anyone sitting in the front seats, so it's a waste of effort... the speakers being up top in the parcel tray will be much better, and since they're larger speakers, they'll give plenty of sound
there is no wiring for the door speakers there either.. if you want to add speakers there, you need to swap the loom from the astina

As above- you can put them in, you'd just have to pop a couple of extra wires into the amp i'd guess. Or daisy chain them- dodgy, I know but it works. I did it and put some in the rear doors, didn't notice any difference.
Realistically though, it won't make that much difference- just invest the extra money in a better set of 5x7's for the front and 6x9's for the parcel shelf. |

and thru some dynamat in your front doors while your going :-) get decent fronts.. get your sub and see what it sounds like from there.. if you want more rear fill then worry about 6x9.. just an idea cause in theory they SHOULD sell you a 4channel amp (front and rear speakers) and also a mono block(sub).. then if you want to add rear speakers you can :-D |

the only thing I can think of that will make those door speakers useful is if you got some speakers in that size that give very good low frequency response... then coupled with a simple crossover, make them act as cheap subwoofers to add bass without needing a big space wasting sub in the boot... but all of this will only give you mediocre results at best

buy a smaller sub (10-12" will be fine), and invest that extra $300 that you were gonna spend on the rear door speakers and use that for the fronts

Okay thanks heaps guys, I won't bother with the optional 6" door speakers then. Going to spend more on the 5x7 (front) and 6x9 (shelf/on top of boot) and get a 4 channel for them and then an amp + sub. I'm going to go for a 15" as I'm prepared to spend a little extra and have had 2 mates get 15's in past week and I am in love. Getting a double din Pioneer DVD player aswell Should be a very nice system when it's all done.

i'll show you mine, on the weekend if you want to see what 6'' splits front and rear sound like with a 12'' sub,
personaly i wouldn't run 5x7's on the front doors if your going to be running a sub, in theiry you don't want bass from your speakers if your running a sub, system should be set up with clarity from your speakers and then all your bass from your sub you don't want both in both if that makes sence, but yer i'm happy to meet you somewhere on like saturday or sunday and show you if you want just let me know.

What music do you listen to? If you're into crazy double kick bass drum lines in metal etc a 15" won't keep up. A pair of 10's would be ideal more than likely. Also you do want mid bass from your fronts IMHO, set around 60-100khz. A sub just adds depth.

Don't waste money on 5x7s - some good 6" splits in the front doors will be a much better investment.

Will 6" fit in the hole without mucking around? And what's the difference between 6" splits and normal? (I know little to nothing when it comes to audio haha just starting off here)
Edit: Thanks for the offer Haighie but I'm extremely busy, I have yearly exams on this week and next week and need to study Last edited by Lepsche323; 13-09-2012 at 05:18 PM. |

I have JL Audio 6.5" splits in my front doors and 6" JL Audio splits in the rear doors and they were a screw in fit.

You'll might need to make a template out of some MDF or you can buy adapters from most car sound shops.
Splits have a separate tweeter that mounts up higher, so that the sound is directed at your head - not you knees - for better sound reproduction.

Ahhk, it's all starting to make sense now.
So what about this then. 6 or 6.5" splits in front 6x9 in the back shelf 4 channel amp mono + sub |

I would also aim for a sealed sub as a ported sub gives heaps of bass from little power. However it is not a tight punchy bass. |
