With my 0.5W LED bulbs in the door lights, methinks direct wiring into that will do me just fine.....

ahh they look cool

might try that, but i'll try and diffuse them a bit more somehow as i'd prefer more of a glow...

If your after a glow, you could try 2 lower powered led's at different heights rather than one bright bulb???

Or, just point the bulb towards the wall, rather than bending it so that it shines straight out the gap like mine

If anyone wants me to post pics of where I put them just let me know ;-)

These pics should be reasonably self explainitry....

The LED is just 'jamed' in between the door handle piece and the main door panel. You can see the two clear bits of heat shrink tubing that I have put over the soldered joins poking out in the 4th pic. (The wires do a loop down into the hole bit where they come out of the door handle just because it helped it sit better - no other reason...)

One of the wires then winds down to a switch (pic 3) that I put in the door-compartment bit (last pic), and then down to the existing door light. The other wire just goes straight to the door light.

The fifth pic shows where the LED sits right in the back of the door handle. You can just feel it if you run your fingers right around the back of the door handle join. I have done the screws up tight so it is reasonably tightly sandwiched - hence they havn't moved at all since I put them in.

The process of putting them in was reasonably easy. The biggest thing to check is that you wire the LED the right way round as they only work one way :-)

I should point out that the off/on switch is actually a an off/'only on when the existing door lighting is on' switch.
Just thought I'd clarify in case anyone was thinking it had to be manually turned on when you wanted it to go

Solid!!

I really like that, can't wait to see it in the flesh.

Did you ever manage to fix the fading lights?

Unfortinuatley not... Apparently I have blown the internal computer that controls them (or at least thats what Dr Rupe diagnoised ;-))

I have wired them straight to the door now so its a simple on off with the door open and shut...

I have been meaning to find a wrecker to see how much they want to rip me of for a new computer. Once they quote me 5 times what its worth, I'll probably try and pull it to bits to see if I can fix it (I'm guessing that there is simply a capacitor that has blown when it shorted out - or at least that would explain the quite 'crack/pop' noise I heard)

Which internal computer is he referring too? If its the engine ecu then thats wrong as the lighting circuitry doesnt go anywhere near the ecu. Id be more inclined to agree with the cap theory which is probably in the housing on the roof as opposed to inside an internal computer....

Some wiring diagrams showing this computer would be good. The ones I have refer to page 53 for the cabin lighting which I dont have in digital form.

There is a body computer that plugs into the fuse-box, controls light dimmer, keyless entryas well as the door ajar, lights on and ignition key buzzers. The j-spec one also has a reverse buzzer.

A diagram would be great if anyone has one, as then I might be able to work out where the cap that has blown is... :-)

G'Day,
Kitty, I think the wire youa re talking about EL (Electroluminesence <spelling anybody?>) cable. This **** is the bomb. You can cut it, run normal wire and then start the EL again elswhere. It's great. It doens't provide very much illumination at all, more of a dull glow (kind of like aircraft have down their isles in an emergency, although not many of you would have ever seen that). We actually have a massive Islander Mask with hollow eyes hanging up in our dining room, and I've put some red EL cable behind each eye, just run it around the hole, and there's this ominous glow coming from behind the mask. Looks bloody awsome.

Ahh, could Dogo or Pernod (or anybody else for that matter) email me that diagram?

Ta

The scan I got was of how to remove the air vents to try and light them from behind.

I haven't been able to find one of the internal computer
