What have you done with internal lighting?

Just after some ideas around what to do for internal lighting??? :?:

I currently have Blue neons under the dash (both sides), I have replaced the existing door lights with Blue LED's (2 each side), changed the roof light to blue, and put Blue LED's in the back of the door handles 8) I also have some neons for under the back seats to be put in...

What has everyone one else done??? Any other cool ideas would be great!
I am generally after subtle and sexy, but would love to hear about anything that you have done, or any ideas you have - no matter how out there!!! Pics would be great if anyone has any...

For eg. I have heard of people with strobes etc inside the air vents etc??? Anyone seen or tried this??? Heard of any other ideas???

My electronic skill are reasonably good so dont hold back on widh list items!!!

I'll put some pics up tonight of what I have done already...

Cheers
Shane :P

P.S. Dont limit yourselves to inside either, any ideas for outside would be great as well! I currently have Green under body neons, but have some more ideas for outside as well...

hahah Jaycar have a kit for the Knightrider thing...but no :P

RE the vent thing - the LHS one might be a pain as i haven't worked out how to remove the vent... but the drivers side is easy.

i'd just make a reflective cup to direct all the LED light outwards..but then again, LEDs are fairly directional anyway these days

If (read when) I do it, I'll probably use 2-3 X 3mm Led as they only have a 10 deg spread anyway! (And I've found a cheep place to get them over here!)

Does anyone have any idea how to get into the passengers vent?

easiest way to get the passenger's vent is to look at it from a different direction.
rather than taking the vent off, take out the glovebox and remove the pipe going up to the vent. ( Officially called "Pipe #2" if i remember correctly ) if uve got passenger airbag , be careful

the vents are possibly connected to the dash trim ( the biiiig one ), which i dont think u can get off without removing the whole dash structure. I imagine its attached to the trim in the same way as the drivers side vent. maybe if u look at that u'd find a way to just remove the vent

Good plan. I might give it a go and see how it works out.

Has anyone else added extra internal lights anywhere???

Or just pop out the glovebox assambly, slit the pipe, push the LED through and tape over the slit.
I'd consider painting one side of the LED beforehand to make a reflector.

Is there an easy way to pop out the glove box assembly without taking out the rest?

Open the glovebox (lower one) and push to one side (try both sides) and the other side will come out without too much hastle.
When you open the door there is a plastic panel on the side, lever it off.
From there you can remove all the screws and 'pop' out it comes.

I'll e-mail you the page from the book before weeks end.

Heres the pics of the lights in the door handle.
The normal light looks whiteish in this pic, its actually blue but the long exposure makes it whiter...

Has anyone else done this???

I have done the others except the door handles......

I am thinking to get the flexible wiring one and outline the cloth trim part of the door in it!

That would be mad!

So how did you do the door handle lights? Did you drill a hole and pop in an LED?

Did you then wire that to the light in the actual door lower down?

Looks great!!!!!

Keep up the great work

It was possibly the easiest thing I have done on the car.
All I did was take the door off, and then the door handle bit can be loosened by undoing two screws! I then just sandwiched a 3mm Led between the handle panel and the door panel and did the screws back up.

Its right out of the way (and you would never know it was there unless you were actually trying to feel for it).

I then wired it to the other door light (I actually put a switch in the side glove boxes on each door so I can turn them off for warrents etc if I need to - but this isn't essential)

I have been tempted to get some of that rope light to have a play with, has anyone used it anywhere?

So no drilling required?
SWEET!

I think I am about to play with some of that rope light/flexible wiring light etc.

Problem is I have to pay $690 this week for my holiday and $393.25 for my gas/elec/home phone this week AND I gotta live........

So it might have to wait until next fortnight when I will have spare biscuits to play with.....

FRIGGIN HECK, who put that Xmas next to me....... *pushes it away frantically*
 :? :!: :?: ops:

No drilling at all! It was a bit fiddly getting the LED's to sit evenly (Ie, same light pattern on both sides) but I just turned the lights off and used a 9 volt battery to run them while not on the car.

I can post more pics if anyones interested in trying this for themselves.
