Angry WTB: [NSW] Help - got rearended in my BA hardtop

Faaaark! Last week I got rearended pretty heavily and got pushed into the car in front.Insurance rang me today and they are going to write it off and give me $6500 as market value.Am I pissed off.The quote to repair the damage was $6000.So I spoke to the panel shop and they will repair it as a cash job for $4800 or even less if I can buy a front and rear bar and bonnet fairly cheaply. So would anyone have these parts for a hardtop available?Cheers Rod 0419632239

i have a front bar in decent nick. postage to NSW would be a pain though. find a wrecker and see if they have bits before anything.

did they have insurance? if so dont they have to pay?

Doh! Sorry to hear! All i've got is a pair of taillights.

Shouldn't the driver of the car behind yours insurance be paying for your repairs?

Yeah the insurance of the guy who hit me is paying for the repairs. But because they are going to write it off due to the cost of repair, they get a quote from a wrecker and deduct that price from the money they give me if I want to keep the car.So depending on how much a wrecker is prepared to pay for it I may have to try to repair it as cheaply as I can.The panel shop said they will do it for $4800 but if I can source parts cheaper then it will obviously be less.I was shocked at the repair bill becoz the damage doesnt look bad at all.Worst part is the boot will not close as the rear panel is pushed in but it still drove fine.

If its really badly damaged i would suggest you move on

investing the money in a car thats badly damaged will never make it what it once was and it will annoy the hell out of you.

Keep the cash, keep the car and buy another one

Than you'll have a ton of spares and a new car (BA hardtop ofcorse)

ohhh this sounds like dejavu. Sorry for ur loss man. Yeah sucks having spent so much money on the car and not gonna get crap all back. Market value is like 6100 but u cant find a decent astina for less than 7500. Its lame as especially wen we r not at fault. Yeah as much as i miss my baby i wouldnt want her back cos she'd prob cause problems down the track. I should get the valuation for my car tmrw. Good luck with everything

Well all may not be lost yet.I wasn't happy with the original quote so I got another couple done. They were both nearly $2000 cheaper so the assessor is going to inspect the car again and the car will probably be repaired after all.The damage is only cosmetic and no real rail damage so it should end up as good as new.It will get a new bonnet, new rear bumper and beaver panel and left headlight.

Insurance decided to fix my car after all.I got a quote that was just under $4,000.00 using all new parts so the assessor agreed to fix it.I'm paying a little extra "cash" and they will respray the whole car.Im pretty happy with the outcome
