HID question

Is there a such thing as a dual lamp HID ballast so you could run seperate high and low beam bulbs (in my case completely different bulbs of H1 and H3) so I don't have to have 2 ballasts behind my lights? I know there is the H4 dual series but can these be rewired to run 2 seperate bulbs?

Cheers Jarrod

I can't answer your question about rewiring your system to accept H4s, but you don't want stand alone HIDs for highbeams. HIDs take anything from 15-30secs to fully brighten up, so flashing your highbeams, or just needing them in a hurry won't be any good unless you have the H4s.

in theory they should be able to get reqired as the h4 bulbs have 2 connections AFAIK
HOWEVER the h4 ballasts require a secondary transformer/relay as well and AFAIK from the diagrams i saw need to be wired to the batery directly (using the light wires as a trip for the relay) do NOT quote me on this but

My H4s power harness is directly wired to the + terminal on the battery, and has an extra relay box that connects to the LHS light harness for the off/low/highbeam signal. And then you have the earth, low and highbeam connections from the ballust/ignitor to the HIDs for each side.

Yeah, you still have a ballast and ignitor for each side, but the relay only connects to the LHS factory light harness. It's not as complex as it sounds, and the easiest thing to hide in the engine bay for me was the relay.

Is there a such thing as a twin ballast? ie 2 ballasts but in the same enclosure.
