RCA cables...

hey guys,

ive been doing some research on installing an amp and i have read that the power wire and remote wire should run down one side of the car while the rca cables and speaker wire on the other side...

reason being power wire will interfere with the signal wires..

i was wondering if many ppl have used this technique and if not, is there much of a difference? do many ppl have experience with installing amps?

thanks

As long as they're not too close is ok. They dont need to necessarily be on opposite sides of the car , running them down opposite sides of the centre console is fine.

Try not to let them get to close anywhere , avoid letting the RCA cross the power and if they do, do it at right angles.

Else you can get engine noise induced into the RCAs - which will sound like a whine through the speakers that raises and falls with the car revs.

if the wires run side by side the power lines will induce a current in the speaker wires, and voila, engine noise in the stereo ... but ... if the wires are only allowed to cross at right angles, the magnet field produced in the wires can't induce a current in the speaker wires .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_induction

the simple rule of thumb, just keep the wires apart ... running them down each side of a car is something only an audiophile would do, but if you can, why not?

Yeah electromagnetic interferance will only occur when two wires are running paralel to each other in close proximity. Engine noise is a btich to find the source when you have it, so for this reason most simply put the power down one side and the RCA's down the other to prevent a possible problem later.

Interference only effects RCA cables and not speaker wire, so get yourself a half decent set of RCA's (bassicaly any twisted pair design) and you should be sweet.

nope

The speaker wires are carrying a stronger current ( becuse its been amplified ! ) and this makes them more resistant to induced noise.

RCAs carry a very weak current - which is sensitive to induction from nearby strong currents - which is then amplified - making the induced noise even more pronounced.
